Officers acquitted in Sean Bell’s death/New Post, “Injustice” kicks off related discussion

Yesterday, the three officers involved in the fatal shooting of the innocent, Sean Bell in New York on November 2006 were acquitted, sparking an emotional outburst by many. For those who don’t know, Sean Bell (May 18, 1983–November 25, 2006) was an African-American man who was shot and killed by plainclothes New York police department detectives on November 25, 2006. Bell and two other friends were leaving Bell’s bachelor party at a strip club in Jamaica, Queens when they were shot, in an incident that sparked fierce criticism of the police for the killing of an unarmed man and drew comparisons to the 1999 killing of Amadou Diallo. Three of the five detectives involved in the shooting were indicted by a grand jury for the incident but found not guilty on charges ranging from manslaughter to reckless endangerment. Bell was buried in Port Washington, new York. Bell left a wife and a baby daughter in purgatory behind.

After finding out about this, I was inspired to create a new category in The Chaos Forum (http://thechaos.lefora.com/) called “Injustice” (http://thechaos.lefora.com/forum/category/injustice/page1/) and the discussion “Officers acquitted in Sean Bell’s death” (http://thechaos.lefora.com/2008/04/27/officers-acquitted-sean-bells-death/). Go to the forum and talk.
